Packed Column Calculator does the calculation for design of new and rating of existing packed column. This application uses Generalized Pressure Drop Calculation originally given by Sherwood et al and used here in the form given by Eckert (1975).

This application takes basic fluid properties and type of packing from the user and then does the calcuation for following three modes

• Fixed Pressure Drop Mode

  In this mode a fixed Pressure Drop / mt of packed height is specified and the program calculates the tower diameter and percentage flooding which will be obtained for the provided flowrates. This mode is defined for designing towers where pressure drop across the column is very crucial.

• Percentage Flooding Mode

  In this mode a Percentage Flooding is specified and the program calcuates the Pressure Drop/ mt of packed height and column dia which will give the desired percentage flooding for the flowrates provided.

• Column Diameter Mode

  In this mode Column Diameter is specified and then the program calculates the Pressure Drop/ mt of packed height and percentage flooding which will be there for the given flowrates.

GPDC Diagram plots the curve for different pressure drop and shows the calculated X, Y parameters
