How to Use Pipe Flow Calculator

Follow these steps to start the calculation

Main Panel

Main Panel consists of following Buttons :
  • FLUID
This button will generate a pop-up window to update Fluid properties. By default Density and Viscosity for water is considered. Density is in Kg/m3 and Viscosity is in Centipoise (cP).
  • NODE
This button is used to add a node on the screen. Click this button and move the mouse pointer on the screen and click it at any place to define a new node.
  • EDIT
This button is used to edit a node defined in the last step. On clicking this button a pop-up window will appear. Following details can be edited in this pop-up window.

    • Select a Node to be edited from the Drop Down menu.
    • Select Type of Node. It can be a Reservoir or a Join Point. Reservoir denotes a fixed head point for which Pressure is not updated during the calculation. No Inflow and outflow can be defined from the reservoir. Join Point is a normal node at intersection of 2 or more pipes. Flow In and Out can be defined from a Join Point.
    • Enter the Pressure at the Node in BarG units.
    • Enter the Elevation of the Node in m.
    • Enter the Flow In and Out for a Join Point in m3/sec.
    • Enter the X and Y Coordinates to shift the node on drawing screen
    • After changing details of a Node, CLICK UPDATE NODE
  • PIPE
This button is used to define a pipe between 2 different nodes. If a pipe is already defined then it can be updated using this button. A pop-up window appears with following details:

    • Select From and To Node from the Drop Down Menu
    • Enter the Length of Pipe in meters.
    • Enter the Diameter of Pipe in millimeter. It can also be selected by Clicking Select ID button next to this option.
    • Enter the Roughness of Pipe in millimeter. It can also be selected by Clicking Select button next to this option.
    • Enter the K Value for the fittings. Fittings can be selected by Clicking the Select Fittings button.
    • After changing details of a Pipe, CLICK UPDATE PIPE
  • CLEAR
This button is used to remove the currently defined Piping Network.
  • SAMPLE
This button is used to load pre-defined sample problems. A pop-up window appears on clicking this button, with a drop down menu to select type of sample problem.
  • CALCULATE
This button is used to start calculation of Pipe Network. If equations get converged and results are available, then arrows marking the flow direction will appear on the diagram. To view the results, Clik on Result Panel.
